TROLL STORY TIME

BROKEN ELEVATOR
Troll Characters and Stories by Helena, Minna and Johannes Kuuskoski
Artwork by Helena Kuuskoski

Peetu had called Honeylips over to see his broken elevator. "I love my elevator", said Peetu. "It's so much easier than climbing up every day." You see, Peetu often climbs up high in Trolldom's tallest trees, so it's easy to understand why he loves this elevator so much. "Do you think it can be fixed?" he asked Honeylips, who is Trolldom's Inventor Troll. "Oh, it looks pretty bad", said Honeylips. "But don't worry, I'll think of something", he added.
Sure enough, Honeylips came up with a brilliant plan. "I'll build him an elevator that he can use to climb up into any tree!" Honeylips was quite pleased with himself. He also knows that when Peetu finds other tall trees to sing in, he might like to have a bit of help climbing those, too.

Honeylips always loves challenges, and he doesn't mind working hard to finish a new invention, especially one as useful as this was going to be.

"Alright Peetu, buddy! What do you think?" Honeylips asked eagerly. "I..hmmm...I don't know...are you sure this thing will stay in the air?" Peetu wanted to know. He was a little bit scared. "Oh yeah" said Honeylips. "I test drove it myself, it's great! You're going to love it even more than your old elevator!" Honeylips was getting excited again. "I don't know about this" Peetu mumbled. "There is something to be said for an elevator that is attached to something.." "Oh, quit worrying and try it!" said Honeylips.
Peetu did try it, and Honeylips was right, it worked just fine. Honeylips had been right about the other thing, too. Peetu realized that he loved this new elevator. He skipped from tree to tree for the next few days, trying out all kinds of new singing spots.

Peetu kept in mind Honeylips' warnings not to fly around when there was a storm, and to always be careful of tree branches,

One day Peetu hadn't paid much attention to the weather, and he was caught up in a sudden storm. "Oh boy, this is going to be trouble" he said to himself. "I better head for home quickly!"

The wind gusts were tossing his little contraption every which way, but Honeylips had done his job well, and the machine held together. But sometimes Mother Nature will get the better of you anyway...

The wind pushed him into a big tree, where the propeller blades got stuck in the branches. "Oh, this is so embarrassing - not only was I flying around in a storm, but I also got stuck in a tree...Oh dear" Peetu said to the two Moko Trolls who were patrolling the area. "It's okay, Peetu" one of the Mokos said. "We'll get some help and get you safely out of that tree" they promised. Peetu sang a few songs while he waited. "Stuck in tree, soon I'll be free.. maybe they laugh at me... we'll see..."
Moko Trolls are in charge of delivering mail in Trolldom, but they also keep an eye on the Mudhats (you never know what they are up to) and help rescue other Trolls who may be in trouble.
They fly very fast and so it didn't take them very long to come back to help Peetu. As you see, quite a few more Mokos had joined the rescue mission.
"Come on Peetu, I told you to not use the elevator when it's too windy!" Honeylips teased Peetu. "And didn't I say to not go near trees with big branches sticking out!" "Yes, yes, but I didn't mean to, and it was the wind, you see, it pushed me.. are you going to let me down from here?" Peetu was beginning to wonder. Bugbear and Boxtroll thought the whole thing was funny. After some more teasing, they pulled Peetu safely onto the ground and gave him a big hug. "We are glad you're okay" they said to him.
Peetu sure was happy to be home again. He parked his elevator on the platform next to his door. Then he started singing all kinds of songs about storms and big winds, and good friends you can count on when you're in trouble. "I am one lucky Troll" he exclaimed and then he made up a song about that.
When the evening began to fall, Peetu sang soft lullabies and then some Blues...
If you listen with your Fairy Tale Ears, maybe you can hear Peetu sing in a tree near your house....
